  3.     Why is everyone so surprised by the ethics problems of Jim
  4. Wright, Tony Coelho & Co. (NATION, June 12). Self-interest
  5. dictates that Congressmen will accept honorariums, free travel,
  6. PAC funds and gifts as long as they are legal. Since more than
  7. 90% of all incumbent members of Congress are re-elected, logic
  8. suggests that the majority of Americans are quite happy with the
  9. quality of the Congress.

  13.     If Newt Gingrich is so concerned about three decades of
  14. Democratic dominance of Congress, my advice to him is to
  15. recognize that the Democratic majority was duly elected. He
  16. should start figuring out how (if it is possible) to make the
  17. Republican Party more responsive to the needs of middle- and
  18. lower-class voters.
